Best Kit for Your Situation
For simple operation, refillable pods or starter kits have fewer controls; prefilled systems require proprietary pods.
A pod mod offers more settings; a box mod suits users comfortable with batteries, coils and maintenance who prefer greater vapour production.

What Happened to Disposable Vapes?
The sale and supply of single-use disposable vapes was banned throughout the UK on 1 June 2025. This applies even to nicotine-free products. A reusable vape must have a rechargeable battery and have readily available prefilled replacement pods. Consumer nicotine vaping limits include 2ml tanks, 10ml nicotine refill bottles and 20mg/ml nicotine strength.
On 29 October 2026, wider age-of-sale restrictions for vaping and nicotine products are scheduled to take effect across the UK. Vaping Products Duty has applied since 1 October 2026 at £2.20 per 10ml of e-liquid regardless of nicotine level.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the different types of vape kits?
The principal categories are pod kits, starter kits, vape pens, pod mods, box mods, sub-ohm systems and reusable prefilled kits.
Which type of vape is best for beginners?
For adults who already smoke, a simple refillable pod or starter kit generally needs less adjustment than a box mod. Non-smokers should not start vaping.
What is the difference between a pod kit and a pod mod?
Both use pod cartridges, but pod mods usually provide more adjustable controls, such as wattage or airflow. Some basic pods also offer these functions, so the distinction is not absolute.
Are box mods worth it?
They offer more power and tank flexibility for users who need those controls, as well as much greater vapour production. They are unnecessary for someone who wants a simple fixed-output device or wants an experience similar to smoking a cigarette.
What replaced disposable vapes after the ban?
Rechargeable prefilled pod systems and refillable kits remain available when they meet reusable-product requirements. They retain the battery and replace the liquid cartridge or refill the reservoir instead of discarding the complete device.
Final Checklist
Compare the vaping (MTL/DTL) style, coil compatibility, refilling method, batteries, ongoing replacement costs and UK compliance. Product labels such as ‘starter’ ‘sub-ohm’ and ‘big puff’ describe features or marketing categories, not a guarantee that a device suits every user. Vaping is for adults who already smoke or vape, not children or non-smokers.
