A vape pod is a removable cartridge that holds e-liquid and connects to a vaping device. Adult smokers and existing vapers looking to compare equipment can explore:
For practical instructions:
What Are Vape Pods and How Do They Work?
A pod is the part of a pod-style vape kit that holds the liquid. It usually includes a mouthpiece, liquid reservoir and connection points. Many have an integrated coil and cotton wick; others accept a separate replaceable coil. When the device is activated, the coil heats liquid soaked by the wick, producing a vapour you can inhale.
Pods can use either magnetic or push-fit connections; similar shapes do not guarantee compatibility. For details, see:

The UK ban on selling or supplying single-use vapes took effect on 1 June 2025. Compliant rechargeable devices with separately available prefilled pods remain legal. Do not manually refill a sealed cartridge unless its manufacturer permits it.

What matters about each cartridge?
Aspire BP Stik: This is a 2ml replacement pod with a bottom silicone filling seal and support for Aspire BP coils from 0.15ohm to 1.0ohm. The pod is supplied without a coil. Coils are available seperately.
Geekvape Q: This three-pack includes refillable pods with built in coils and a top-fill system, intended for compatible Sonder Q and Wenax Q equipment. Available in multiple resistance options.
OXVA XLIM V3: This three-pack includes top-fill, integrated mesh coils and options including 0.4ohm, 0.6ohm, 0.8ohm and 1.2ohm. Older XLIM devices may not support every resistance, so check the exact model before purchase.
SMOK Nord 2: Nord 2 Nord pods and Nord 2 RPM pods accept coils from different Nord coil ranges. Both are refillable, but selecting the correct pods is only the first step: the required coil is also sold separately. A Nord coil will not fit an RPM cartridge and vice versa.
Choosing the Right E-Liquid and Coil
First you need to identify the pod's exact coil resistance and what kind of e-liquid is right for it. Many lower-power mouth-to-lung (MTL) pods are intended for thinner 50VG/50PG liquids, both freebase and nicotine salt. Some lower-resistance, higher power configurations support thicker high-VG liquids. A thick liquid in a coil that is not designed for it quickly may cause dry hits and instant coil burnouts; a very thin liquid in equipment designed for another viscosity may contribute to leaks. Nicotine salts and freebase nicotine describe formulations, not vaping styles. A smoother sensation does not establish a lower nicotine dose. UK nicotine e-liquid is limited to 20mg/ml, but the suitable strength depends on the device and the users’ preference.
How to Refill a Vape Pod Correctly
-
Check that the pod is designed to be refilled; it is good practice to turn off or lock the device.
-
Locate the fill port. Depending on the pod, it may sit under a removable mouthpiece or behind a side or bottom silicone seal.
-
Open the fill port gently and insert the bottle nozzle without forcing it. Avoid the central airflow channel.
-
Add e-liquid up to the fill level. Do not overfill and always leave a small bit of space inside the pod to avoid spitback or leaks.
-
Close the port completely, wipe any spills and check the outside of the pod is dry.
-
For a new coil or cartridge, allow the wick to saturate for at least ten minutes before use.
Never try refil a sealed prefilled cartridge by forcing it open. Read the full step-by-step pod refilling guide for more.
How Long Do Vape Pods Last and When Should You Change It?
There is no guaranteed number of refills or days or bottles of e-liquid that a pod will last. The most important factor in a pod’s lifespan is frequency of use, followed by styles of use and then types of e-liquid used. Some users replace a pod within a week or two, but others can make a pod last longer with great care and extremely light use.
Replace the pod when there is a persistent burnt taste, noticeably reduced performance or leakage. With removable coils, the pod can be retained as long as it is not damaged, although replacements are readily available.

Pod Troubleshooting Table
|
Problem |
Possible reason |
Practical check |
|
Burnt taste |
Dry wick, insufficient priming, excessive power or worn coil |
Stop activating; check liquid and approved settings; replace scorched coil or fixed-coil pod |
|
Leaking |
Loose fill seal, damaged casing, incorrect filling or unsuitable liquid |
Wipe liquid away, inspect seals and compatibility; replace a damaged pod |
|
Gurgling or spitting |
Excess liquid or condensation in airflow |
Remove pod if permitted and clean accessible areas according to instructions |
|
No vapour |
Flat battery, locked device, poor contacts or incompatible pod |
Charge safely, check lock mode, clean dry contacts and verify compatibility |
|
Weak output |
Empty reservoir, worn coil or incorrect power setting |
Check liquid, coil condition and recommended wattage |
|
Pod will not fit |
Wrong cartridge family or model variant |
Check the full device name and cartridge code; never force it |
If the battery becomes hot, swollen or damaged, stop using the device immediately. Do not attempt to dismantle or repair batteries or electronic components.
## Cost per Month: Prefilled vs Refillable
To compare systems, include liquid, prefilled cartridges and coil or pods, not just the price of the rechargeable device. The following figures are hypothetical all-in retail prices:
|
Example monthly expense |
Refillable built-in-coil system |
Reusable prefilled system |
|
E-liquid or prefilled liquid |
Three 10ml bottles at £6 = £18 |
Twelve 2ml prefilled cartridges at £4.50 = £54 |
|
Replacement coils or empty pods |
Two built-in-coil pods at £3.33 = £6.66 |
Included within replacement cartridge price |
|
Illustrative monthly total |
£24.66 |
£54.00 |
Initial device purchase and postage are not included. UK Vaping Products Duty began on 1 October 2026 at £2.20 per 10ml of e-liquid; retail prices are expected to increase.
Storage, Cleaning and Travel
Store unused pods in their original packaging, away from heat, sunlight, children and pets. Keep filled pods upright where possible, with all seals closed. Clean mouthpieces and contact surfaces with a dry cloth. Do not immerse the battery device in water or rinse a fixed-coil cartridge.
Air-pressure changes can cause leakage while flying, the best way to stop this from happening is to empty the pod before boarding. Carry battery-powered vapes in hand luggage, not checked luggage, and check your airline's liquid and battery rules. Never vape or charge the device on board.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do vape pods last?
There is no fixed lifespan. They may last days or weeks depending on use and liquid. Change pods when damaged, leaking or when you experience a burnt taste, not just because a fixed number of days has passed.
Can I refill a prefilled pod?
Absolutely not. Do not puncture or refill a sealed prefilled pod. Replace it with the correct prefilled pod for your chosen device.
Which e-liquid works best in pod vapes?
Many low-powered MTL pods support 50/50 liquids, either nicotine salts or freebase, while certain higher power pods can use thicker liquids. Nicotine strength is a separate decision and this decision should be made by each individual user.
Why does my pod taste burnt?
The internal wick may be insufficiently saturated with e-liquid, the power may be too high or the coil could be worn out. Stop using it, check liquid level and settings, and allow a new coil to prime for ten minutes. Once the wick is burned the pod should be replaced immediately.
Are pods interchangeable between brands?
No. Even within one brand, product families and variants may differ. Always check thoroughly which replacements you need before purchase.
Final Checklist
Identify whether your device takes prefilled or refillable pods, verify the internal coil resistance, check whether the coil is built in, and budget for replacements. Follow filling and storage instructions, and do not keep using cracked or leaking pods. Vaping is for adults who already smoke or vape, not children or non-smokers.
